The College Radio Foundation, in partnership with the students and volunteers of XCSB (formerly WCSB), has created a heartfelt one-hour special program filled with farewells and messages of support. On the one-month anniversary of WCSB’s airwaves being taken from the students and volunteers, this unique broadcast is being aired this week on over 40 college radio stations across the globe, uniting the international college radio community in solidarity with XCSB.
The program includes audio content from across the USA and the world, and can be heard here:
The special broadcast is co-produced by Alison Bomgardner, a Cleveland State University senior who had served as WCSB’s General Manager since 2024, and is continuing her leadership role with XCSB. Bomgardner says, “It is incredibly inspiring to see our national college radio community come together in our station’s, our listenership’s, our Northeast Ohio community’s time of immense grief and frustration over Cleveland State University’s partnership with Ideastream. With more than 40 stations participating today in spreading awareness about what has happened at WCSB Cleveland and what can happen on college campuses across the country goes to show that we will not let the dangerous silencing of our free speech and expression go in silence. We will continue to unify ourselves and bring opportunities for students of all backgrounds to become broadcasters, creators, and leaders on their campus communities until every student-run or populated media organization is safe from these kinds of backroom deals and flash cuts.”
Rob Quicke, founder of the College Radio Foundation, and co-producer of this program with Bomgardner, said: “This demonstrates the enormous support that XCSB has from across the country, and the world. There is huge support for the students and volunteers of XCSB. The message is simple: reverse the decision, and return WCSB to the students and volunteers.” Bomgardner adds, “The messages of support were immensely touching and I cannot be more hopeful for what the future of college has to offer when we all come together.”
