Now in its 12th year, the Spirit of College Radio Awards are presented by the College Radio Foundation in recognition of truly outstanding and spirited efforts made by college radio stations on World College Radio Day. Stations are voted for by the College Radio Day Task Force, who seek to shine a spotlight on stations that not only go above and beyond to celebrate the annual CRD event but also embody the passion and mission of college radio. Out of the hundreds of stations that participate, only a few stations are chosen.

“Every year, across the country, so many stations join together to showcase the talents and accomplishments of college radio. Every day is a day to celebrate college radio, but these stations took it to the next level” – Sean McDonald, President of College Radio Day, 2016.

Last year these awards were presented by 2020 college radio ambassador, Bret Michaels and the College Radio Foundation in recognition of truly outstanding and spirited efforts made by college radio stations on World College Radio Day on October 2, 2020. In recognition of the huge support given by this year’s official WCRD Ambassador and humanitarian of the year award recipient, Bret Michaels, the awards were named in his honor. Michaels took part in a Q&A with students offering words of encouragement of their journey and also donated $10,000 via his Life Rocks Foundation to college radio stations in need as special Bret Grants.

In 2020, out of the nearly 600 stations that participated in 43 countries, only ten stations were chosen. The following stations were selected to be recognized as recipients of the Bret Michaels Spirit of College Radio Awards 2020:
