College Radio Society Launches Search for “100 Objects” That Defined Student Broadcasting

Dear College Radio Community, Friends, and Supporters,

On the occasion of World College Radio Day 2026, The College Radio Society is excited to announce the launch of a special research and archive project: “The History of College Radio in 100 Objects” — and we need your help to bring it to life!

College radio has always been the heartbeat of music discovery, student activism, campus culture, and media innovation. From rare vinyl test pressings and vintage station IDs to handwritten logbooks, quirky mascot gear, handcrafted flyers and posters, and historic broadcast equipment, the story of college radio is told through the tangible artifacts and memories we’ve kept along the way.

Do you have a unique or historic college radio object, piece of memorabilia, or equipment? Do you have an object that has a cool or interesting story attached to it?

We invite you to contribute to this national history project by filling out our quick submission form: https://forms.gle/hTpSpkMDhbRqFS7X7

What we are looking for:

• Artifacts & Memorabilia (photographs, vinyl, station gear, bumper stickers, logbooks, signage, posters, airchecks, signed records and CDs).

• The Story Behind It: Why is this object special? What moment or movement in college radio history does it represent?

• Rarity & Personal Context: Is it one-of-a-kind? What role did college radio play in your life?

• Any and all timeframes are applicable – from stations who first went on air in the 1930s to stations events that took place this year.

• Who is your station’s most famous alumni?  What well known musicians made in-studio appearances at your station?  What campus concerts and events did your station produce?

Whether you are a current student DJ, a station alumnus, a faculty advisor, or an avid listener, your story is an essential part of college radio heritage.  We don’t yet know what format the final project will take (for example, a printed publication) but we need your memories to bring this visual project to life.

Please share your objects and stories with us today! Together, let’s document and celebrate 100 objects that define the legacy of college radio.
