New Music Faster: The Ready Set

The Ready Set
Indie-pop / Electro-pop
RIYL: Fallout Boy, Owl City

Pink is a nice color, no denying that. It’s also an entirely appropriate color when it comes to the The Ready Set’s latest release, Life in Pink. Like the color pink, this is music that is presented with the gloss and sheen of pure pop music and bursting with musical effervescence. The Ready Set, is in reality, the singular Jordan Mark Witzigreuter, established singer-songwriter from Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is the lead vocalist and sole member of the act, much like Ian Broudie was originally with The Lightning Seeds, polished indie-pop performers from the UK in the early 90s. Also much like Broudie, Witzigreuter created The Ready Set in the basement of his childhood home in Fort Wayne, Indiana and has been crafting his music ever since. Broudie was able, like Witzigreuter, to compose his music in the self-created laboratory of his house, before unveiling them to a public that then encouraged him to put together a proper band to play live shows.

In addition to being in the band NEKOKAT, Witzigreuter has released four studio albums over the last decade: Tantrum Castle, I’m Alive, I’m Dreaming, The Bad & The Better, and I Will Be Nothing Without Your Love being his latest. Having amassed over 1.4 million followers on Facebook, you could call this homegrown experiment a huge success.

This latest song, Life in Pink is the first single in two years, and is another slice of indie-pop perfection, as its jangly guitars are underpinned by a snappy drum machine, and a final lacquer of harmonizing vocals are applied on top. The result is a song that finds itself seeping into your brain, and recalls the finest melodic moments of Owl City and Savage Garden.

There is something to be said for the accomplished song-craft on display here, and further evidence that Witzigreuter continues to deliver a plush music experience that resonates with those that hear it.
