College radio is a mix of strange, off-the-wall music announced by amatuer DJs, right? Don't tell that to the staff of the University of Akron's WZIP. This college station competes with the most professional radio stations through its "ZJs," special guests, and "Hot Urban Contemporary" programming.

Although WZIP has been an established station for many years, it has gone through several changes and is again moving to become one of the foremost adult urban stations in northern Ohio, said ZJ Mac Cherry.

Some of the station's recent guests include:

• Eve Rough Ryder's First Lady
• Cain and Abel
• Lil' Wayne
• Dead Prez

The student ZJs are on the air 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Their extensive programming schedule provides a description of shows and ZJs.

WZIP's News and Sports departments are also not to be ignored. "The Power in Akron Sports" is devoted not only to University of Akron sports teams but to sports all around the city. The Newz88 team lets students in on what is happening both on and off campus.
