Montanta Valleys Rumble with Reggae, Jazz and Rock from KGLT
Go to Montana State University's KGLT
Thoughts of the mountains and valleys of Montana do not usually evoke the sounds of reggae in our minds, but one college radio station in Bozeman would like to change that. KGLT, Montana State University's FM station, is as diverse as the students who attend the school.
This station has a playlist that consists of a huge selection of music from genres such as:
- Top 40
- Hip hop
- Loud rock
- Jazz
- Americana
- Reggae
- World
This odd mesh of music makes sense after examining the station's staffing policies. Most college radio stations tend to offer positions and shows to students majoring in radio or other communication media. Such staffing practices do not typically represent all the views of students at a college. KGLT has gotten around this problem by offering positions to anyone interested in music, including students seeking bachelor's degrees in:
- Biotechnology
- English
- Accounting
They are all part of the KGLT student staff. This blending of students creates a station that is truly representative of the college's student body.
You can listen to KGLT:
- In Bozeman at 91.9 FM
- In Helena at 98.1 FM
- In Livingston at 89.5 FM
